Definitely. It's a mark of something special when a book cuts through my grumpiness/depression/self-pity and makes me care about it in spite of my bad mood.
I feel that, Bro. And I AM in a book club, and yes, sometimes the programmed book is NOT what I want to read, maybe not at the moment, or ever, but if I soldier on, I usually learn something. At times, something I'm grateful to know, and wouldn't have learned otherwise. But if it's not for a class, or work, I really don't see punishing yourself by reading something you don't want to read.
You're one up on me. I don't even start when I don't feel like it. But once I begin a good novel, it puts me in the mood.
